My name is Susie and I am a web designer.
Raintree Design is a full service graphic arts studio, focusing on web design and digital art.
Although my background is graphic art, I have been doing web work and digital art for a number of years. I also perform server-side setup for most hosting platforms.
On the web site front:
Raintree specializes in both new web sites as well as existing web site facelifts and upgrades.
Current platforms offered are WordPress for content management and completely customized static html sites.
- For WordPress, I use the Genesis Framework and the most current version of WordPress.
- For static sites, I use custom built templates in DreamWeaver.
If you are a blogger and would like to handle your own updates, WordPress may be for you. Each WP site comes with online instruction for updating and adding basic items like new categories, posts, pages and menu items.

My name is Susie and I am a web designer and a runner.
I grew up as a competitive AAU swimmer and became a runner twice each year between long course and short course swimming seasons. At the end of my swimming career, I started paying more attention to running.
Within a few years, I was one of the fastest women in the area for the 15k, the half marathon and the full marathon. I continued on this path for about a decade and then took a detour down one of life’s not so bright roads. Safe to say that all is well today and that life changes were made around 2001. As a sidebar to the last two sentences, I will add that my own challenges and dim days were all components to the big arc of events that have led me to where I am today.
Fast forward to today: After nearly 20 years of not running, I decided to start again. My original thinking was along the lines of, “certainly it won’t be difficult at all to run a sub 20 minute 5k…” or, “I should easily be able to run a marathon again, and a fast one at that!” Or my favorite: “Of course I can break 1:30 for a half marathon… puleeeze!” As you all know who are reading this, none of these beliefs were true OR have happened, yet. I have been humbled and now understand with great respect, the plight of the common runner. No more are the days of free shoes, free race entries, free hotels, free plane tickets, etc.
Keeping all of this in perspective and looking back at my extensive years of running experience and knowledge, I decided to learn the science behind building basic training plans and studied periodization and the effect of quality efforts on older runners. While learning some of these principles, I came across attackpoint.org and the teachings of Jack Daniels. The science behind his VDOT formula is valid and the philosophy behind his training ideas makes complete sense.
More recently, I became a certified VDOT coach with the Jack Daniels Run S.M.A.R.T. project. I now use his science, ideas and teachings exclusively when writing training plans.
If you need some help and would like to discuss your running goals, please drop me a line!
